DO’S & DON’TS OF YOUR FIRST INTERVIEW

 

Applied for a job? Got the interview call? Worried and anxious because it’s your first interview! We have some amazing and exciting interview dos and don’ts so that you won’t miss your job opportunity.

Don’ts of Interview:  

o   Don’t be late:

 Being punctual is the first step towards success in getting a job and life too. There is more than one candidate for any of the job, so getting late means disturbing the entire schedule which would not only spoil your first impression but also can end up in failure for you.

o   Don’t forget to take your testimonials:

 Leaving or forgetting your testimonials at home is major mistake interviewee do mostly. Always take the hard copy of your documents that was pre-requisite for the job. It will manifest that you are a responsible and active candidate for the job.

o   Don’t backbite about your previous/ current employees:

Never talk maliciously about your previous or current team. It will be negative for you and will stain your personality, as the HR always seeks positive attitude from candidates.  So always stay positive about your employers even if you had an awful and negative experience.

o   Don’t brag about your skills:

Interview is a chance to make your mark and shine like a star! Be confident about your skills and achievements but never brag or be over-confident on them. Stay honest, true, and confident but never be arrogant and rude over your talent.

o   Don’t interrupt the interviewer:

Be a good listener, so that you can be a good communicator as well.  Don’t ever interrupt or over-speak the hiring manager, listen and respond accordingly.

Dos of the Interview: Let us tell you some Dos of the interview and then you will surely get your job.

o   Do your Homework:

Having an insight about the company will give you an upper hand whereas; having no knowledge about it is simply a red flag for the job. Do read about the company’s story, working, clients and competitors. A pro-tip for you, also try your best to research about other candidate that are applying for the job, this will help you out in doing self-analysis.

o   Do Prepare Questions:

Preparing a few questions would show your interest in the position. As you research about the company, you’ll get the idea that which questions should be preferred for the interview.  Asking questions would make you stand out in the crowd. For instance, you may ask about the work approach and strategy and you may ask about the challenges of this position.

o   Do Dress a Part:

Attire says it all! Approach someone who works or has worked in the company and ask about their dress code. If you fail to find some connections, then opt formal attire than casual. Decent dresses, polished/ clean shoes, wear a watch, and a nice decent scent and Wohoo! You are perfectly ready for your interview!

o    Do Sell Your Skills / Do Explain How You Can Beneficial To This Company:

To make yourself prominent from other candidates, always explain how you can be an asset for the particular company and how you can be the best choice for the position. For this purpose you should be able to sell your skills and talent you should illustrate your talent in a very sincere, concise and decent yet confident way. If, as an example, you possess excellent communication skills, and the company is finding a good communicator, you can target this thing and can derive the most out of it.

o   Do Make a First Good Impression:

Always check the location of the office at map or via making an early visit so you don’t get late at interview date. If it’s an online interview than prepare and check your internet connection multiple times and also there should be a backup. Getting late is unacceptable for an interview. Bring along your resume and other documents. Attire must be formal and be very factual and concise while giving the interview. Sit confidently and always leave a thanking email to the HR. All of these traits will make your first impression good and will amplify your employment chances.
